Crypto expertise for your firm

We handle data preparation, amended tax returns and crypto bookkeeping for your annual financial statements as support work for your firm – without you having to build up specialist staff of your own. Openly as a cooperation partner or fully white-label: the client engagement stays with you.

Tax advice for tax advisors

The firms for which the cooperation is particularly worthwhile

Firms without a crypto focus

The first crypto cases are appearing among your clients, but building up your own expertise does not pay off.

  • Crypto support without your own specialist staff
  • Client engagement and overall tax assessment stay with you
  • Start without software or training

Firms with amended-return cases

Clients whose crypto income has so far been declared incompletely now need a clean solution.

  • Amended tax returns (Nacherklärung) and voluntary disclosure (Selbstanzeige, Section 371 AO)
  • Narrow window before the DAC8 data exchange
  • Reconstruction of even complex transaction histories

Firms with business crypto clients

Companies with crypto payments or crypto holdings need bookkeeping that reconciles cleanly in the annual financial statements.

  • Crypto bookkeeping and valuation of holdings at the balance sheet date
  • Accounting data as CSV or via the DATEV Buchungsdatenservice
  • Annual financial statements stay with your firm

What your firm gains from the cooperation

Accept crypto engagements instead of passing them on – without investment and without risk

Additional revenue without additional staff

Accept and bill crypto engagements without building up or training specialist staff of your own

Client retention instead of client loss

The entire engagement, including the rest of the tax return, stays with your firm

Reduced liability risk

Outsource technically delicate crypto matters to a specialised partner instead of handling them with half-knowledge

Scalable without fixed costs

No upfront investment in software, training or staff – billing is per case handled

Quick start

Open cooperation model ready to use immediately, white-label within a few weeks – no IT project

Proven expertise

We actively follow the tax authorities’ position, including our own articles on the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) circular of March 2025

Why crypto engagements are difficult for many firms

Specialist knowledge, chaotic data and regulatory time pressure

Time-consuming data preparation

  • Wallet and exchange data, FIFO allocation, holding periods
  • BMF circular of 6 March 2025 tightens duties to cooperate and document

Specialist knowledge hardly pays off

  • With few cases, building up your own expertise does not pay off
  • The tax authorities’ position and case law are constantly changing

DAC8 and the Crypto-Asset Tax Transparency Act (Kryptowerte-Steuertransparenzgesetz, KStTG) increase the pressure

  • Trading platforms report transaction and user data from 1 January 2026
  • First automatic exchange of data between tax authorities by 30 September 2027

Narrow window

For clients whose crypto income has so far been declared incompletely, there is a narrow window until the first DAC8 data exchange for amended returns with exemption from prosecution.

Firms that can deliver now will secure these engagements – before clients have to take action themselves.

Do you have engagements like these on your desk?

Let’s talk about a cooperation.

You take over the finished posting batch and close the books as with any other engagement.

Two cooperation models – you decide how you appear to clients

Start with little risk and scale according to your case volume: from the open cooperation model to the white-label solution, in which only your firm is visible.

Model 1

Open cooperation model

You identify a crypto element in a client’s affairs and involve us for the crypto part on the basis of a cooperation agreement. We appear under our own name, take on the crypto work directly and deliver the finished results back to your firm.

  • Immediate start without technical or organisational lead time
  • Figures for Annex SO, posting records and reports for integration into your overall tax assessment
  • Ideal for test cases and low case volumes

Model 2

White-label

Only your firm appears to the client. We work in the background as an integrated cooperation partner – your firm remains the client’s sole point of contact.

  • Tax reports with your logo and letterhead via CoinTracking Corporate
  • Client communication via an email address of your firm
  • Direct file exchange via the DATEV data centre, accounting data via the Buchungsdatenservice

Properly regulated under professional and data protection law

The cooperation is based on a clear contractual framework

Compliant with professional law under Section 62a StBerG

Involving external service providers is expressly permitted under Section 62a of the German Tax Advisory Act (StBerG) – with a documented confidentiality undertaking, a clear contractual basis and information of the client in the engagement agreement. Professional responsibility for the overall engagement remains with your firm

Data access only as far as necessary

Access to client data strictly on a need-to-know basis, governed by the cooperation agreement and a data processing agreement (AVV) under Article 28 GDPR (DSGVO)

Ich bin absolut begeistert von seiner Beratung, seiner sympathischen Art und der Zeit, die er sich nimmt. How we start the cooperation

From the first call to a white-label partnership

1

Cooperation call

We clarify your firm’s case profile and case volume and discuss which model suits you.

2

Establish the contractual basis

Cooperation agreement, documented confidentiality undertaking and data processing agreement (AVV) under Article 28 GDPR – a one-off formal step with prepared standard documents.

3

Start in the open cooperation model

The first cases run without any technical setup. You receive finished results – figures for Annex SO, posting batches as CSV, reports – for integration into the overall tax assessment and annual financial statements.

4

Scaling to white-label

Once case volumes are regular, we set up CoinTracking branding, a mailbox, DATEV exchange and the Buchungsdatenservice for ongoing crypto bookkeeping. From then on, the crypto support runs seamlessly within your firm’s processes.

Ready for a first test case?

Getting started with the open cooperation model is possible immediately and without any setup.

Frequently asked questions about the firm cooperation

Answers to the most important questions from partner firms

How quickly can we start the cooperation?

In the open cooperation model, immediately: no technical setup at all is required – the cooperation agreement is sufficient. The white-label model is ready for use after a one-off setup of about one to three weeks – it is only a matter of configuration, not of buying software.

Does Kanzlei Klein appear to our clients?

That is your decision. In the open cooperation model, we appear openly as a specialised cooperation partner. In the white-label model, we stay in the background: tax reports carry your logo, and communication runs via an email address of your firm. You regulate the involvement of a cooperation partner with the client in your engagement agreement.

Is passing on client data permissible under professional law?

Yes. Section 62a of the German Tax Advisory Act (StBerG) expressly permits the use of external service providers. The prerequisites are a documented confidentiality undertaking, restriction of data access to what is necessary, a cooperation agreement and a data processing agreement (Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag) under Article 28 GDPR. We cover all of this with standardised contract documents – a one-off formal step.

How does data exchange between the firms work?

In the open cooperation model, we hand over results by email and PDF. In the white-label model, accounting data, receipts and results are exchanged directly via the DATEV data centre; for the ongoing exchange of receipts with the client, DATEV Unternehmen online can also be used.

Can we transfer the crypto bookkeeping directly into our DATEV system?

Yes. You receive the crypto bookkeeping either as a posting batch in DATEV format (CSV), which you import into DATEV Kanzlei-Rechnungswesen or another accounting program – or, with regular volumes, directly via the DATEV Buchungsdatenservice: the postings then flow through the DATEV data centre into your accounting without manual import.

Who prepares the annual financial statements for crypto clients?

Your firm. We deliver only the crypto parts: fully booked and reconciled business transactions, proof of holdings at the balance sheet date including valuation, and the associated documentation. You review and take over the postings into your accounting and prepare the annual financial statements, tax balance sheet and tax returns under your own responsibility, as with any other engagement.

Which transactions does the crypto bookkeeping cover?

Purchases, sales and swaps of crypto assets, payments to suppliers and incoming payments from customers, transaction and trading fees, and income from staking, lending, mining and airdrops. All transactions are valued at the rate at the time of the transaction, reconciled against wallet and exchange balances and posted to agreed accounts in SKR03 or SKR04 – on request according to your firm’s chart of accounts.

Who bills the client?

In the open cooperation model, Kanzlei Klein bills the crypto services directly to the client. No fee is paid for the referral. If your firm provides its own services within the engagement – such as obtaining data from the client or coordinating with the tax office (Finanzamt) – these are remunerated according to their scope. In the white-label model, you bill the client and we invoice you for our services. We discuss the specific terms in the cooperation call.

What about clients who have not yet declared their crypto income?

This is exactly where the greatest need for action currently lies: with the DAC8 data exchange, the tax authorities will receive reported transaction data from 2026. Until then, there is a narrow window for amended returns with exemption from prosecution under Section 371 of the German Fiscal Code (AO). We take care of the complete reconstruction and amended return as support work for your firm.

Do we need our own software or training?

No. There is no upfront investment in software, training or staff. The technical infrastructure – such as the CoinTracking Corporate access – is on our side; billing is based solely on cases actually handled.

Does Kanzlei Klein take over the entire engagement?

No, quite the opposite: the cooperation model is designed so that the engagement, including the rest of the tax return, stays with your firm. We supply only the crypto components – data preparation, amended returns or bookkeeping – and you integrate the results into the overall tax assessment or annual financial statements.
